Part of TIA’s educational experience is the school’s drive to guide its students toward the best post-secondary opportunities in the country and around the world. The first step in this process is the annual trip to the Metro Toronto Convention Center for the Ontario University Fair. This is where universities from all over Ontario come to showcase their programs, provide information to prospective students, and answer any questions or concerns that may be posed. “I had a lot of questions about theapplication process to Canadian universities,” said Alex, a grade 12 studentseeking to enter University of Waterloo’s Computer Science program. “My programis particularly competitive and difficult to get in to, that’s why I’m glad wecame here to get the answers directly from the university representatives.” While some students know very clearly whichprogram and universities they aim to apply to, others are less confident withtheir choice and need more time to consider their options. “Originally I wasinterested in doing something related to business, but after some time thinkingabout it I think I’m much more interested in astronomy,” said Han????, who was with TIA for twoyears. “I don’t want to make a choice that I’d regret later on, that’s why I’mtrying really hard to balance my own interests with the need to be practicalabout work life.” As part of the convention is also theopportunity to attend seminars hosted by individual universities, in which universityspeakers and representatives talk about their experiences on campus and life asa post-secondary student. For most students, the University Fair ismore an opportunity to consider practical steps for their futures and beequipped with the information that they can take home and discuss with theirfamilies. The trip is only the beginning of the application process for TIA’s grade12 students. As usual, the school will be continuing to guide students throughthe last quarter year to make sure their applications are as successful aspossible.
