University of Waterloo Visits TIA
TIA had the pleasure of hosting a visit from the University of Waterloo for the purpose of educating students about the university’s programs, application process, and campus life. On an annual basis, TIA receives ambitious students, both domestic and international, who are driven to reach great heights. As such, the University of Waterloo is a natural target for these students’post-secondary studies, especially those who are interested in technical fields like Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, etc. In addition to highlighting the programs at the university, the Waterloo presenter also made sure to answer questions from very eager students about the institution’s admission requirements and unique programs. Many students present were particularly interested in co-op programs, and were quite satisfied with the opportunities offered at Waterloo. One of the students at the presentation, Ashley is among the several who are still making up their minds about what course they would take after high school. “I’m still choosing between two programs:architecture, and business. Both offer co-op, which is great, and I know that the university would provide an amazing education in either case. I’m just not sure if I should take a more pragmatic approach to my career – by taking business – or to do something that I’m more passionate about, like architecture, which includes co-op in Rome!” is still considering her options carefully, much like many of her peers. The Waterloo visit coincides with TIA’s grade 12 students receiving their PINs to OUAC (Ontario University Application Center), the online system which allows them to apply to Ontario’s universities. They are expected to begin their applications as soon as possible, with guidance counselors carefully monitoring students that require assistance in terms of program selection and the attainment of the necessary and corresponding high school prerequisite courses. The deadline for university applications is January 17th, 2018.
